I told me friend that it was more useful to know Chinese because of business and China has more people then any country in the world, but he said its better to learn Spanish because the United States is so close to a Spanish speaking country. Which Langauge is more useful? i need help for planning for my classes for next year!

It depends on where you want to work in the future.

I personally recommend Chinese especially if you are not thinking of staying in the states in the future, and if you are not going to apply to countries where Spanish is the main language. Not to mention, Chinese is becoming one of the most useful languages these days.

But keep in mind that when it comes to the Chinese language, there is a difference between Cantonese and Mandarin. Mandarin is more commonly used world-wide and it is a very useful language in the business world.

I’m thinking of taking a beginners Spanish course at university. Is it a hard language to learn? Do people tend to pick up the basics quickly?
I can only speak English. Although, I did a little bit of German a while back.
Can you share your experience of learning Spanish?

It’s not difficult. You just have to be consistent and be patient, and you can learn.
